(Guelph, ON) – In addition to clients already playing in the Canadian Hockey League, Maloney & Thompson Sports Management has signed eight players to major junior contracts in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), or the Western Hockey League (WHL) to start the 2017-2018 season.
In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Jaxon Bellamy of Saint John, New Brunswick signed with the Moncton Wildcats after being selected in the 1st round of the QMJHL Draft. The 2001-born, 6’3 defenceman played last season with the Saint John Vitos and was identified for Hockey Canada’s Under-17 camp in Calgary in July.
In the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Stephane Patry of Geneva, Switzerland will be playing with the Erie Otters after being selected by them in the 1st round of the CHL Draft. The 2000 born forward was a top scorer on Geneva juniors and played as an underage for Switzerland at the U18 World Championships last spring.
Mark Woolley of St. Thomas, Ontario will be playing for the Guelph Storm after the club selected the 2001-born, 6’3 defenceman at the start of the 3rd round. He brings size and speed to the rebuilding Guelph lineup and his late birthday makes him eligible for the NHL Draft in 2020.
Matt Dunsmoor of Guelph, Ontario signed with the Mississauga Steelheads after the club selected the 2001 born goalie in the 8th round. Matt was awarded the MVP of the OMHA SCTA minor midget league and played for OMHA at the OHL Gold Cup.
In the Western Hockey League (WHL), Martin Fasko Rudas of Banska Brystica, Slovakia signed with the Everett Silvertips after the club selected him in the 1st round of the CHL Draft. The 2000 born forward was the captain of Slovakia at the U18 Ivan Hlinka Tournament and is eligible for the 2018 NHL Draft.
Mick Kohler of Cologne, Germany was selected by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 1st round of the CHL Draft. The big and skilled 1998-born forward was a leading scorer in German juniors and also played with professionals in the DEL2 as well as for the German national team.
Braden Plaschewsky of Calgary, Alberta was taken in the 2nd round of the WHL Draft by the Saskatoon Blades. The 2002 born forward was a leading scorer in Alberta bantams last year and is expected to make contribution with the Blades sooner rather than later.
Peyton McKenzie signed with the Moose Jaw Warriors after being selected by the club during the 3rd round of the WHL Draft. The younger brother of NHL Draft Pick Skyler McKenzie, Peyton will play this coming season for the Okanagan Hockey Academy of Edmonton.
