(Guelph, ON) – Seven players have been named to represent their respective countries at the Ivan Hlinka U18 Memorial Cup in Breclav, Czech Republic and Bratislava, Slovakia on August 7 to 12, 2017.
Forward Anderson Macdonald (Saint John, New Brunswick) and defenceman Noah Dobson (Summerside, PEI) will represent Canada at the event. Macdonald led the Canadian Hockey League in goals for a 16-year-old with 29 and was a finalist for QMJHL offensive rookie of the year behind Nico Hischier. Dobson played an important role on the blueline for Acadie-Bathurst and was the league leader in plus/minus for rookie defencemen along with 27 points in his first junior campaign.
Forward Stephane Patry (Geneve, Switzerland) was named to represent Switzerland after playing as an underage at the U18 World Championships last season. The 5’10 winger was recently selected by the Erie Otters of the OHL in the first round of the Canadian Hockey League import draft.
Forward Martin Fasko Rudas (Banska Brystica, Slovakia) was named to represented Slovakia at the event on home ice. Fasko Rudas was recently selected by the Everett Silvertips of the WHL in the first round of the Canadian Hockey League import draft.
Other players who retain collegiate eligibility were selected for Slovakia and Switzerland.
