Seventeen players sign CHL contracts

(Guelph, ON) – In addition to several clients already playing in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), Maloney & Thompson Sports Management has signed seventeen players to major junior contracts in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Western Hockey League (WHL) to start the 2018-19 season.

In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), left winger Drew Elliott (Musquash, NB) signed with the Baie-Comeau Drakker after being selected in the 2nd round of the 2019 QMJHL Draft. The 2001-born, 6’3 defenceman played last season with the Saint John Vitos Midgets (11-18-29 in 31 games).  He was identified for Hockey Canada’s Under-17 camp in Calgary this past summer.

Defenseman Zach Biggar (Portage, PEI) signed with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and was their 2nd round selection in 2019.  Last season he played with the Kensington Wild Midgets (4-24-28 in 31 games) and was also invited to Hockey Canada’s U-17 camp.

Defenseman Jacob Squires (Charlottetown, PEI) will suit up for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies after being their 3rd round selection in 2019.  In 2018-19, Squires played for the Charlottetown Pride Midgets (3-15-18 in 33 games).

David Doucet (Baie-st-Anne, NB) signed with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles after being selected in the 2nd round of the 2019 QMJHL draft.  Doucet, a centreman, suited up last season for Newbridge Academy in Nova Scotia.  He was also invited to Hockey Canada’s U-17 camp this past summer.

Centreman Connor Trenholm (Halifax, NS) also signed with Cape Breton after spending the 2018-19 season with the Cole Harbor Wolfpack Midgets.  After recording 13 goals and 7 assists in 31 games, the 6-0, 170 lbs. centreman was selected in the 3rd round of the 2019 QMJHL draft.

Defenseman Zack Welsh (Halifax, NS) was a 2nd round pick of Cape Breton and signed after a solid season with the Halifax McDonald’s Midgets where he posted 6 goals and 19 assists in 34 games last season.

Forward Manuel Alberg (Koln, Germany) signed with the Moncton Wildcats after winning a U18 D1 World Championship for Germany last spring.  He spent the 2018-19 season with the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL.

Right winger Jeff Burridge (London, ON) was signed by the Halifax Mooseheads after a solid season with the Burlington Cougars of the OJHL (14-18-32 in 54 games).  He was a 3rd round selection of the OHL Flint Firebirds in 2017.

In the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), defenseman Artem Guryev (Moscow, Russia) will be playing with the Peterborough after being selected by them in the 2nd round of the OHL Priority Selection.  Last season the 6-3 blueliner spent last season with the Toronto Marlboros minor midgets where he recorded 37 points in 70 games.

Defenseman Josh Kavanaugh (Sudbury, ON) also signed with the Peterborough Petes after being seleted in the 5th round of the OHL draft.  The 6’1 defenceman played with the Sudbury Minor Midget Wolves in 2018-19 recording 25 points in 18 games as a blueliner.

Forward Nolan Dann (Cambridge, ON) has signed with the Sarnia Sting.  The 5-10 winger spent the 2018-19 season with the Toronto Red Wings minor midgets after scoring 67 points in 72 games.  He was the Stings’ 4th round selection in the OHL draft this past April

Defenseman Lucas Brzustowski (Kitchener, ON) agreed to a contract with the Soo Greyhounds after being the club’s  6th round in April.  The 5-11 blueliner picked up 21 points in 33 games with the Kitchener Jr. Rangers last saeason.

Defenseman Clark Hiebert (Oakville, ON) signed with the OHL’s Guelph Storm after two solid seasons in the OJHL.  He was a 9th round choice in 2017 and spent this past season with the Burlington Cougars recording 27 points in 51 games.

In the Western Hockey League (WHL), forward Jonathan Brinkman-Andersen (Aalborg, Denmark) signed with the Medicine Hat Tigers after the club selected him in the 1st round of the 2019 CHL Draft. The 2001 born forward participated with the Danish U20 team at the World Hockey Championships last winter in Canada.

Nino Kinder (Berlin, Germany) was  selected by the new Winnipeg Ice in the2nd round of the CHL Draft.  The 6-00, 170 lbs. forward played the German junior league last season as a 17-year old and won the D1-A U-18 World Championship with German U18 national team.

Centre Tanner Scott (Sherwood Park, AB) was signed by the WHL Victoria Cougars after being their 3rd round selection in 2019.  He recorded 41 points in 29 games with the OHA Academy in Edmonton last season.

Big 6-3 winger Jake Sloan (Leduc, AB) was signed by the Tri-City Americans after being their 3rd round selection in 2019.  He recorded 74 points in 33 games with the Leduc Oil Kings in 2018-19.
