(Calgary, AB) – Ten players attended the Hockey Canada Under-17 and Under-18 national team camps in Calgary from July 26-Aug 3.
Among the nine at the Under 17 Camp were forward Elijah Brown (Edmonton, Alberta/Seattle Thunderbirds)(WHL/1st round) who played for Team White, forward Nate Dunkley (Campbellford, Ontario)(OHL/1st round) played for Team Green, forward Anderson Macdonald (Saint John, New Brunswick/Sherbrooke Phoenix)(QMJHL/1st round) played for Team Gold, forward Andrew Coxhead (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Quebec Remparts)(QMJHL/1st round) played for Team Black and defenceman Noah Dobson (Summerside, PEI/Acadie-Bathurst Titan)(QMJHL/1st round) played for Team Red. All of them have signed in the CHL and will be attending their first camp in August.
These players and others are still eligible to be selected for Canada at the Under-17 World Challenge in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in November.
At the Under 18 Camp, goaltender Matt Welsh (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Charlottetown Islanders)(QMJHL/2nd round) played for Team White. Welsh finished his rookie season with the Islanders were he posted some of the best performances for a 16 year old goaltender in the country with a .904 save percentage in 26 games.
He was eligible to be selected for Canada at the Ivan Hlinka U18 Championship in August as well as the Under 18 World Championships in April 2017.
