(Guelph, ON) – In addition to clients already playing in the Canadian Hockey League, Maloney & Thompson Sports Management has signed ten players to major junior contracts in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), or the Western Hockey League (WHL) to start the 2014-2015 season.
In the QMJHL, the Charlottetown Islanders signed 1996-born centre Filip Rydstrom of Valentuna, Sweden after selecting the 6’3, 196 pound forward in the 2nd round. Last season with Valentuna, Rydstrom racked up 42 goals, 71 assists and 172 penalty minutes at J18 and J20 Division 1 League.
Likewise, Morgan Nauss, a 1998-born two-way defenceman from Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia signed with the Halifax Mooseheads after being selected by the club in the 5th round of the most recent Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Draft. Nauss led the Halifax Macdonalds midget club to the Telus Cup Championship tournament last season and will start the season with the Mooseheads.
In the OHL, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds locked up 1998-born goaltender Joe Raaymakers of Chatham, Ontario after making him their selection in the 2nd round of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) draft in April. Raaymakers attended the national U-17 camp for Hockey Canada at Calgary in August. He is expected to backup for the Greyhounds this season.
Trent Bourque, a 1998-born defenceman from Burlington, Ontario, signed with the Sudbury Wolves after he was selected in the 3rd round of the OHL draft. The 6’2, 180 pound defenceman finished a strong campaign with the minor midget Hamilton Bulldogs.
Rocky Kaura, a 1997-born shutdown defenceman who was Barrie’s second selection overall in the 4th round a year ago, was signed by the Colts to man their blueline this upcoming season. Likewise, 1997-born drafted forward Aleks Rapp, was signed by the Guelph Storm where it is expected the 6’4, 230 pound forward will start on forward
In Owen Sound, the Attack signed 1998-born forward Kevin Hancock after selecting him in the 5th round of the most recent OHL draft. The skilled playmaker is expected to start the season with the Toronto Junior Canadiens Jr. A after leading the midget Jr. Canadiens to a GTHL title last season.
In the WHL, Dylan Plouffe, a 1999-born defenceman of Edmonton, Alberta,who racked up 22 goals and 36 assists in only 33 games this past season, signed with the Vancouver Giants after being selected in the 2nd round of the Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft. Plouffe is on the initial shortlist for the Team Alberta U-16 program.
Fellow Edmonton native Colin Paradis, a 1998-born defenceman, was signed by the Moose Jaw Warriors after being selected by them in the 4th round of the previous WHL draft. He is expected to start the season in Sherwood Park.
Finally, 1997-born forward Addison Runey of McKinney, Texas signed with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL after scoring 21 goals and 23 assists in 41 games with the Dallas Stars Elite U16 program last season.
