Thirteen players sign CHL contracts

(Guelph, ON) – In addition to clients already playing in the Canadian Hockey League, Maloney & Thompson Sports Management has signed thirteen players to major junior contracts in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), or the Western Hockey League (WHL) to start the 2016-2017 season.

In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Noah Dobson of Summerside, PEI signed with the Acadie Bathurst Titan after being selected in the 1st round of the QMJHL Draft. The 2000 born defenceman played last season with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and was identified for Hockey Canada’s Under-17 camp in Calgary in July.

Anderson Macdonald from Saint John, New Brunswick was selected by the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the 1st round of the QMJHL Draft. The 2000 born forward led his hometown Saint John Vitos the finals of the Telus Cup and was identified by Hockey Canada’s Under-17 camp.

Andrew Coxhead from Fall River, Nova Scotia was selected by the Quebec Remparts in the 1st round of the QMJHL Draft after a year in which he led the Dartmouth Subaru midgets to the Telus Cup this past fall. He is a 2000 forward who was also identified by Hockey Canada’s Under-17 camp.

Christian Wejse from Esjberg, Denmark was selected by the Blainville Boisbrand Armada in the 2nd round of the CHL Import Draft. The late 1998 born forward will be initially eligible for the 2017 NHL Draft after a year during which he played on the Denmark champion Esjberg professional club and was captain of the Denmark Under-18 team.

Kynan Berger from Bedford, Nova Scotia signed with the Acadie Bathurst Titan following a season in which he played for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. The 1999 forward was selected in the 4th round of last year’s QMJHL draft.

In the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Nate Dunkley of Campbellford, Ontario will be playing with the Kingston Frontenacs after being selected by them in the 1st round of the OHL Draft. The 2000 born forward led Quinte to the OHL Cup last spring and was identified by Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Camp.

Luke Moncada of Toronto, Ontario will be playing for the Guelph Storm after the club selected the 2000 born forward at the start of the 3rd round. He led the Toronto Red Wings to the OHL Cup last spring and will bring a rugged, two-way game to the rebuilding club.

Dawson Baker of Baltimore, Ontario signed with the Sudbury Wolves after the club selected the 2000 born forward at the start of the 4th round. Dawson was a big part of the Quinte Red Devils run to the OHL Cup and was identified by Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Camp.

Hunter Jones of Brantford, Ontario signed with the Peterborough Petes after the club made him the third goalie selected in the draft during the 5th round. Despite playing on a weak team last season, the 6’4 athletic goaltender was identified by Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Camp. As a late birthdate 2000 he is not eligible for the NHL Draft until 2019.

Aidan Timmermans of Thornhill, Ontario signed with Erie Otters after the 2000 born defenceman impressed the club throughout training. The 7th round pick played last season with the Toronto Jr Canadiens and is expected to start the season with the Orangeville Flyers of the OJHL.

In the Western Hockey League (WHL), Jake Lee of Sherwood Park, Alberta signed with the Seattle Thunderbirds after the club selected him in the 1st round of the WHL Bantam Draft. The 2001 born defenceman was identified in Team Alberta’s U16 Camp and is expected to play midget this coming season for the Sherwood Park Kings.

Liam Keeler of Edmonton, Alberta was fortunate to be selected by the Edmonton Oil Kings at the end of the 1st round. The quick and skilled 2001 born forward has been identified as part of Team Alberta’s U16 Camp and is expected to play midget this coming season for the South Side Athletics Club.

Jakin Smallwood of Leduc, Alberta was taken in the 5th round of the WHL Draft by the Moose Jaw Warriors and signed after an impressive camp. The 2001 born forward has been identified as part of Team Alberta’s U16 Camp and is expected to play midget this coming season for the Leduc Oil Kings.

Kale Clouston also signed with the Moose Jaw Warriors at training camp after being selected by them in the 5th round of the 2015 WHL Draft. The nephew of former NHL coach Cory Clouston and current Medicine Hat Tigers coach Shaun Clouston, the 6’3 2000 born forward will play midget this coming season.
