Welsh and Hamer selected for World Under 17 Championships

Welsh and Hamer will compete for Team Canada at the World Under 17 Hockey Championships

(Halifax, NS) — The Team Atlantic Male Under 17 program announced its roster that will represent the Atlantic region at the World Under 17 tournament from December 28th to January 4th 2013 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Included on that team are Nick Welsh of Halifax, a 2nd round pick of the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL. In thirty games as a sixteen-year old rookie defenceman, Welsh has one goal, five assists and twenty-six penalty minutes with the Cataractes.

Additionally, Jesse Hamer of Dartmouth was selected to represent Canada. The forward is leading the Nova Scotia midget league in scoring with twenty goals and seventeen assists in twenty-three games plus forty seven penalty minutes.

The team opens up the World Championships against the Czech Republic on December 28 at 2:00 pm at Centre 200 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
