(Lugano, SUI) -- Matthew Verboon (Geneva, SUI) has signed an extension with HC Lugano, making him a member of the southernmost National League club until 2026. The Swiss-Canadian joined them this summer after five years in North America.

"We are very pleased to have extended Matthew's contract for the next two seasons", team manager Hnat Domenichelli comments. "He has quickly found his place within the team and the group, and we are happy to be able to count on him for the future."
In 21 appearances so far this season, the 23-year-old has put up three goals and two assists while on the ice for an average of 13 minutes and 45 seconds.
The 6.01, 196 lbs winger just finished a four-year career in the NCAA with Colgate University.
He scored 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points in 40 games this past season.
Born in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Verboon grew up in the Geneva, Switzerland area playing youth hockey for Geneve Servette.
Matt tallied 79 points in 127 career NCAA games with Colgate. He was also named 2023 ECAC Men's Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the year.
