(Skelleftea, Sweden) -- Forward Tom Kühnhackl (Landshut, Germany) has signed a contract with Skelleftea AIK in Swedish Hockey League.
The 29-year old winger spent the 2020-21 season with New York Islanders organization and played for Germany at the recent World Hockey Championships.
He was a member of the back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017.
The 6-2, 190 lb. forward had 4 goals and 9 assists in 22 AHL game with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers this past season. He also picked up 5 points in 10 games at the World Hockey Championships.
Kühnhackl is a 10-year pro who spent five seasons in the NHL playing 234 regular season games and 58 playoff games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders.
He was a 4th round selection of the Penguins in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft after playing for the Landshut Cannibals.
Before turning pro, Kühnhackl played two seasons in the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires and Niagara Ice Dogs after being selected 24th overall in the CHL Import Draft by Windsor in 2010.
Kühnhackl is the son of former German hockey great Erich Kühnhackl who played and coached various German pro and national teams for 40 years from 1968 to 2010.
